On any given PC, there are three separate clocks in operation:

• RTC (Real Time Clock)
  An actual, battery-operated clock hardwired to the computer’s motherboard.
• BIOS (Basic Input Output System)
  Part of the underlying software that starts your computer before your operating system kicks in.
• SYSTEM CLOCK
  What you normally see as part of your operating system.

When you start up your computer, the BIOS reads the time from the Real Time Clock. Then, as your operating system starts up, it gets its time from the BIOS.
